    Offprint:

A copy of the Journal will be given to the corresponding author of each paper and additional copies may be purchased at current rates.

    Preparing the Paper:

A standard paper should not exceed 10 printed pages and should be divided into Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (or merging Results and Discussion), acknowledgements (very brief if necessary) and References.

Articles cited in the text are referred to by author’s name and year of publication e.g. Sanford  (1987). Articles by up to three authors should be abbreviated e.g. Sola et al., (1987) or (Sola et al., 1987).

Title page must contain a concise and informative title (as short as possible), a list of authors names and addresses of institutions and a running title of not more than 45 characters. The abstract (not exceeding 350 words) must be followed by key words (not exceeding five words), arranged alphabetically and excluding words used in the title. The references should be in alphabetical order with the Journal names unabbreviated. The format for papers, entire books and chapters in books, is as follows:

Barber, N. and Harrod, J. O. (1997). Strategies for assessing animal population dynamics. Journal of Animal Biology 79:56-64.

Gates, D. R. (1980). Bio physical Ecology. Springer Verlag, Berlin.

Susan, R. M. (1985). Population dynamics of five species of Vernonia in natural habitats. Physiological Ecology (eds. C. R. Townsend and Pcarlow)  pp. 109-139.

References should only be cited (in press) if the paper has been accepted for publication. Other references should be cited as “unpublished” and not included in the list. One copy of any paper cited “in press” must be included with the manuscript so that it can be seen by the editors. Work not yet submitted for publication may be cited in the text and attributed to its authors as “full author’s name, unpublished data”.

    Tables, Figures and Plates:

Do not present the same data in both figure and table form. Table must be presented in Microsoft word using appropriate number of columns and rows. Figures in the form of line diagrams should be drawn or laser printed in black and white on white paper or on good quality tracing paper. Where possible, they should not be bigger than A4 and designed appropriately if they are to be reduced in size for publication. Photographs should be black and white in glossy prints of good contrast.  Four copies should be submitted with the manuscript. Colour photographs may be allowed where the author is prepared to contribute to the cost of inclusion.

    Units, Symbols and Abbreviations:

Authors are requested to use the International System of Units (SI) for all measurement. Note that mathematical expressions should contain symbols  not abbreviations. If the paper contains many symbols, it is recommended that they should be defined in the materials and methods section.

    Scientific Names:

Give Latin names of each species in full together with the authority for the name at first mention in the main text. If there are many species, cite a Flora or Checklist which may be consulted for authorities instead of listing them in the text. Do not give authorities for species cited from published references. Give priority to scientific names in the text (with colloquial name in parentheses if desired).

    Numbers in Text:

Numbers from one to nine should be spelt out except when used with units e.g. two eyes; 10 stomata; 5 oC.
